OFFICES to be ELECTED

From the UPI Constitution: "The officers of each chapter shall include but not be restricted to a chapter president, chapter vice-president and a treasurer. Chapter officers shall be elected by the membership of each chapter to a three-year term of office at the same time as election of the local officers."

Term of Office for all Positions -- 3 Years, from Aug. 1, 2009 to July 31, 20012.

EIU / UPI CHAPTER PRESIDENT

Job Description: The chapter president provides leadership to the chapter, conducts meetings of the membership and chapter executive board, oversees the organization and operation of the chapter, serves as both a voting member of the Local 4100 Executive Board and the official liaison between the Local 4100 Executive Board and the chapter leadership and membership. Responsible for contract campaign during negotiations.

Time Commitment (approximate): 20 hours per week during the semester; 2-5 hours per week during summer (flexibly distributed).

Compensation: 12 CUs during academic year; 1-2 CUs during summer (at pro-rata salary), depending on workload and participation of Vice-President

EIU / UPI CHAPTER TREASURER

Job Description: The chapter treasurer is a voting member of the chapter executive board; develops the chapter budget, in consultation with the chapter executive board, pays bills, manages the chapter’s accounts and keeps the financial and membership records of the chapter.

Time Commitment (approximate): 2-4 hours per week; fewer as one gains experience with the systems used.

Compensation: 2 CUs during summer (as pro-rata salary).

EIU / UPI CHAPTER EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

Job Description: The chapter executive assistant is a voting member of the chapter executive board. Duties are assigned by the president, in consultation with the vice-president. Traditionally, the executive assistant has arranged logistics (locations, refreshments, etc.) for chapter membership events.

Time Commitment (approximate): 1 hour per week during the academic year;  5 hours (total) over the summer.

Compensation: None currently.

EIU / UPI CHAPTER VICE-PRESIDENT

Job Description: The chapter vice-president's duties are assigned by the chapter president. The vice-president serves as a voting member of the local executive board and assumes the president’s duties if the president is absent or unable to perform them. Recent vice-presidents have served as chief contract negotiator.

Time Commitment (approximate): 10 hours per week during semester; 0-5 hours per week during summer (except when negotiating, in which case the summer workload is much higher, with a commensurate reduction in following semesters to compensate).

Compensation: 6 CUs during the academic year; 0-2 CUs during summer, depending on workload.

EIU / UPI CHAPTER AT-LARGE REPRESENTATIVE (2 Slots Available)

Job Description: The chapter at-large representatives participate as voting members of the chapter executive board. Other duties as assigned by the chapter president.

Time Commitment (approximate): 2-4 hours per month during academic year; 2-4 hours (total) during summer.

Compensation: None.

HOUSE OF DELEGATES (33 Slots Available)

Job Description: Attend the UPI House of Delegates, held once per year during the spring semester, to review UPI’s work during the previous year and establish general UPI policy. Meet as called upon as a Chapter House of Delegates to prepare for the UPI House of Delegates or to establish policy on matters specific to the chapter.

Time Commitment (approximate): Two full days plus 2-4 additional hours per year.

Compensation: None.
