Governors State / UPI Chapter
OFFICES to be ELECTED

From the UPI Constitution: "The officers of each chapter shall include but not be restricted to a chapter president, chapter vice-president and a treasurer. Chapter officers shall be elected by the membership of each chapter to a three-year term of office at the same time as election of the local officers."

Section 3. The powers and responsibilities of the GSU Chapter officers shall be as follows:

GSU / UPI CHAPTER PRESIDENT

Job Description:

1. The president shall provide leadership in executing the policies and objectives of the GSU Chapter and UPI.

2. The president shall preside at all meetings of the GSU Chapter Executive Board, the GSU Chapter House of Delegates and the GSU Chapter membership as a whole.

3. The president shall, with the approval of the GSU Chapter Executive Board, appoint the chairpersons of all standing and ad hoc committees. The GSU chapter president shall appoint, upon advice and consent of the GSU Chapter executive board, the chief negotiator from the GSU Chapter and the GSU chapter members of the negotiating team, subject to approval by the Local Executive Board.

4. In accordance with the UPI Constitution, the president shall serve on the UPI Executive Board, with the specific responsibility for effective communication between the GSU Chapter and UPI.

Time Commitment: 1/2 time  (20 hours per week)

Compensation: 15 cues.

GSU / UPI CHAPTER TREASURER:

Job Description:

1. The treasurer shall receive any rebates of membership dues from UPI and shall administer the expenditure of these funds and any other funds of the GSU Chapter with approval of the chapter Executive Board.

2. The treasurer shall keep, in cooperation with the UPI secretary-treasurer, the membership rolls and facilitate collection of UPI dues.

3. The treasurer shall keep adequate records available at all times for the GSU Chapter Executive Board, the secretary-treasurer of UPI and the UPI Trustees/ Audit Committee.

4. The treasurer shall prepare an annual budget proposal.

5. The treasurer or president shall pay all bills authorized by the GSU Chapter budget, retaining vouchers or invoices for the same. Invoices not authorized in the budget and which exceed the amount set by the GSU Chapter Executive Board must be submitted to the GSU Chapter Executive Board for authorization prior to payment.

Time Commitment: 4 hours per week.

Compensation: 3 cues.

GSU / UPI CHAPTER VICE-PRESIDENT / Unit A - Unit B, ASP

Job Description: The vice-presidents elected from the tenure-tenure track faculty, the temporary faculty and the academic support staff shall have the responsibility for effective communication between their respective group ad the chapter.

Time Commitment: 1/2 hour per week.

Compensation: 0 cues.

UPI EXECUTIVE BOARD REPRESENTATIVE

Job Description: The representative to the UPI Executive Board shall serve with the GSU Chapter president on the UPI Local 4100 Executive Board, with specific responsibility for providing effective communication between the GSU Chapter and UPI Local 4100.

Time Commitment:  Attend Local UPI 4100 meetings about 8 weekend meetings a year.

Compensation: 3 cues plus expenses for attending Local 4100 meetings.

HOUSE OF DELEGATES (16 Slots Available)

Job Description: Develop resolutions for the House of Delegates meeting and attend chapter and Local 4100 House of Delegates meetings.

Time Commitment: 2-3 meetings per year.

Compensation: Expenses for meeting.
