NORTHERN / UPI CHAPTER PRESIDENT
Job description:
Plans and presides over chapter meetings of NIU Instructors.
Attends meetings of the UPI Executive Board six times
per year.
Attends leadership conferences for IFT and AFT.
Appoints chief negotiator and negotiators; grievance
officer (2 cues per semester); membership chairperson; legislative liaison
and other appointees as needed.
Maintains membership rosters in coordination with NIU's
Human Resources.
Manages the day-to-day operations of the chapter, communicates
regularly with members, troubleshoots for members, works with NIU’s
contract administrators to resolve issues.
Provides leadership for the collective bargaining process.
Time commitment: 10
hours per week on average.
Compensation: 4 cues
compensation fall and spring semesters.
NORTHERN / UPI CHAPTER VICE-PRESIDENT
Job
description:
Performs duties of the president in her/his absence.
Assists in carrying out chapter tasks and other duties.
Time commitment: 4
hours a semester.
Compensation: No compensation
allocated.
NORTHERN / UPI CHAPTER TREASURER
Job description:
Maintains revenues and expenditures of the chapter.
Keeps records of union membership.
Pays all bills as authorized.
Time commitment: 4
hours a semester.
Compensation: No compensation.
LOCAL 4100 BOARD REPRESENTATIVE
Chapter duties: This
representative assists the president as a liaison between Local 4100 and
the NIU Instructors’ Chapter. As a member of the UPI Executive Board,
the representative has full voting rights to represent the membership of
NIU Instructors.
Time commitment: Attends
6-7 meetings a year.
Compensation: No compensation.
HOUSE OF DELEGATES (7

Chapter duties: Each
chapter gets one delegate for each 15 union members. Chapter representatives
construct and submit resolutions for the UPI Local 4100 House of Delegates
to consider and vote upon. They attend one meeting per year with delegates
from all the other UPI campuses.
Time commitment: Attends
one 2-day meeting per year.
Compensation: No compensation.
