Jamie has been a trade union activist since 1980, when she worked in a UAW shop at Allis-Chalmers, Milwaukee. She has taught at a number of public universities, most recently at UI- Chicago, where she is also active in Chicago Jobs with Justice and the Chicago Workers' Rights Board.

Mary Durkin
Director of Communications
Mary taught Journalism at Eastern Illinois and schools in Wisconsin and Kansas since 1976. Prior to teaching, she was a reporter and editor on Chicago-area newspapers. She joined the UPI staff full time in January 2004.

Kathy
McConnell
Program / Legislative Coordinator
Kathy has worked at UPI since 1996,
starting in the Springfield office.
Prior to that, she was employed at Sangamon State / University of
Illinois Springfield for 12 years, serving as chapter president
and chief negotiator.

Tamara Morris
Financial Assistant
Tamara brings to UPI many years of experience in customer service, management, record keeping and secretarial work. She manages the UPI office and assists the financial secretary. She has been with UPI since 1989.

Pat Tracy
Office Assistant
Pat brings to UPI the organizational skills she developed raising six children. She has worked part-time for UPI since 2004 and became a full time employee in January 2009. Prior to coming to UPI, Pat taught Elementary School for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Nick Yelverton
Legislative Director
Having worked as a government relations representative for the Teacher Retirement System (TRS), Nick is very familiar with the issue of pension funding. He is employed by the Illinois Federation of Teachers since 2006 and is assigned directly to UPI.
