Appointment of IBHE Members
University Professionals of Illinois Delegate Group 3

WHEREAS members of the IBHE are charged with making many crucial policy and budgetary recommendations that affect Illinois universities; and

WHEREAS appointments to the IBHE are made by the Governor of Illinois; and

WHEREAS the qualifications, ethics, and social attitudes of the Board members influence the quality and direction of higher education in the state;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; That UPI urge the Governor of Illinois to apply the following criteria in selecting IBHE members and that UPI work with the Governor to identify candidates who meet these criteria:

• Respect for university governance that is shared by all constituent groups
• Respect for democratic principles and procedures
• Serious commitment to public higher education in the State of Illinois
• Demonstrated commitment to quality education at all levels
• Understanding of higher education and the academic missions of Illinois public universities
