Appropriate Delivery Systems for Courses
Drafted by Bonnie Irwin, EIU

WHEREAS each individual university faculty member is responsible for setting and maintaining academic standards and curricula; and

WHEREAS faculty by training and experience know best which teaching methods work effectively to help students learn; and

WHEREAS faculty require the freedom to design course materials and incorporate different modes in order to teach courses to the best of their abilities;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that each individual faculty member should have the exclusively right to determine appropriate delivery systems for all courses in their own academic disciplines; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that UPI should negotiate appropriate contract language to guarantee this right and should work with the IBHE to insure faculty authority to determine appropriate delivery systems at all Illinois public universities.
