Cessation of Public Funding for Private institutions

WHEREAS: over $200 million in Illinois tax dollars are used to help subsidize private institutions of higher learning in this state;

WHEREAS: the state of Illinois has reduced funding to Illinois public universities by an average of 9.1% from FY 2002 to FY 2003;

WHEREAS: the budget of the state of Illinois continues to experience financial difficulties;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that UPI promote legislation that ceases all capital project funds to private institutions of higher learning for FY 2004 budget, ceases all financial assistance act enrollment grants to private institutions of higher learning for FY 2004, and ceases all Monetary Award Program funds to private institutions of higher learning by FY 2009.
