Unit B Lecturer and Non-Tenure Tract Faculty Benefits

WHEREAS: the tenure-track faculty and non-tenure track faculty employed by the state university system of the state of Illinois are both responsible for the primary duty of teaching;

WHEREAS the tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty are similarly charged with teaching assignments that require that the content of courses be current and that teaching techniques make use of technological advances available;

WHEREAS many tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty members have been continuously employed by the State of Illinois University System for 6 years of more and need the opportunity for development and retraining to effectively provide the services required by their positions;

WHEREAS some state universities provide fewer health care and sick leave benefits for non-tenure track faculty then for tenure track faculty and ASPÕs

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; That non-tenure track faculty who have been continuously employed for 6 years or more be provided a comparable benefit package as Unit B and ASPs;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; That the negotiations committees of the individual chapters be encouraged to include such benefits for non-tenure track faculty in their proposals.
