No Kings Day, June 14 events
For No Kings Day (Saturday June 14), UPI is joining other higher education members to take a stand and help push the message that our students and institutions cannot afford to have cuts to their Pell grants and education. If you are in the Chicago area, the No Kings Day rally/march starts at noon in Daley Plaza. As a group, higher education is meeting between 11am-11:15 in Federal Plaza and then will walk to the rally at Daley Plaza.
If you think that you might attend the Chicago rally, I would appreciate your letting me know. That way I can contact you if there are any changes in UPI plans, such as changing the meetup place.
There are No Kings Day events planned throughout the state and the nation. You can find one near you at https://www.mobilize.us/aft/?org_ids=42198
In solidarity,
Betsy

Protect International Students, Faculty and Staff
Across the country and even right here in our own community, hundreds of international students have had their student visas suddenly revoked, with many being ordered to leave the U.S. immediately. Alarmingly, some students were not even informed of the revocation or the reason behind it.
International faculty and staff are also facing deep uncertainty about their visa status.
We need your help. Urge Congress to take a stand against these harmful policies targeting international students, faculty, and staff. Follow the link and you’ll be directed to a pre-written message (which you can personalize) that will be sent to your U.S. Representative and Senators. Take action here.
Hands Off Social Security
The keynote speaker, Megan Stockhausen from the AFT, filled us in about current threats to Social Security. Please sign the AFT petition available at the following link: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/hands-off-our-social-security
Fight back against DOGE, Call your member of Congress
Musk's DOGE has unlawfully taken control of the Treasury Department's federal payments system taking American's personal and financial inofmation. In addition, the illegal unit is going through the Centers of Medicaid and Medicare Services as well as the Social Security Administration. Unions have sued and rallied about this issue, but we need to contact members of Congress to stop this plundering.
Call your member of Congress at 1-844-438-5528 and let them know there shouldn't be cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and vital public services.
